The sun is always shining when fashionistas are out, and the right pair of sunglasses are a must have accessory. Recent people watching in the fashion capitals yielded some insights into what are the really cool shades this season. There is definitely a trend towards big and oversized. Even the ever so popular aviators got super-sized. Round lenses seemed to be gaining momentum with small nerd wire frames or big plastic googly eyes. A retro 70s mood is not only a big idea in ready-to-wear but eyewear is tapping into the trend as well with classic Raybans and large butterfly shapes with straight top lines. A more contemporary look were black degrade lenses in black plastic frames, certainly an ideal accessory for the all-dressed-in-black. Plastic novelty frames in colour or in novelty patterns such as leopard spots or confetti specks were certainly an eye-catching accessory for the face. READ MORE +

Fashionistas aren’t about to let the farewell of summer weather stop them from accessorizing with a fabulous pair of shades. Classic Ray-Ban Wayfarers and aviators are now de rigueur, but quirkier approaches to the plastic aviator frame still look fresh and cool, with either an open double bridge or a thick closed one. Super oversized rounded shapes with thin frames and gradient lenses are one of the most popular new retro revival eyewear statements, as well as extra thick resin frames with squared off corners and edges. And touches of understated colour (amber, pink, wine) have been spotted, although the overwhelming statement still is classic black—it has yet to be seen whether last spring’s hit pop bright eyewear will reemerge as consumer favorites as we move onward. This fall’s crop of aviation- and moto-inspired jackets will make wearers look like they are about to ride the highway to the danger zone or if your heart belongs to the sky, look for a aviator shearling jacket accented with straps around the waist, collar, or cuffs. Those who crave the open road will love cropped jackets with plenty of zippers. But just because your outerwear says “tough chick” doesn’t mean you have to turn your back on your girly side⎯pair it with a feminine lace or knit dress. It’s the best of both worlds. And, no matter what, you’ll want to accent your look with a pair of aviator shades. You could go for the classic style, or try an a more contemporary model. If you haven’t noticed by now, we love accessories. We live for them. We lust, we pine, we crave. So whenever street fashion trend spotting rolls around, one of our favorite activities is ogling all the sartorial eye candy… in this case, sunglasses. The summertime essential accessory returns this year big, bold, over-sized, glossy and glamorous as ever, with just enough retro-quirk factor to keep things interesting. We did notice fewer brightly coloured frames than usual—apparently classic black is still leader of the pack, with white, brown and gold metal edges providing a bit of variation. READ MORE +
