No, we’re not making them. But beachgoers in St Tropez certainly stand out in splashy fruit tones this summer, and it’s looking like watermelon, peach, apricot, tangerine… orangey-pinky blends are the flavor of choice for tops and dresses. From Kool-Aid punch brights to sweeter sorbet pales, we’ve seen a smorgasbord of coral hues to flatter every skin tone. Even gents are going for the new splashy look… it may take a man to wear pink, but make it an orangey pink and you’ve got yourself a very stylish man. When we headed to Saint Tropez for some fun-in-the-sun summer trend spotting, we had no idea we’d end up trend striping… classic French sailor stripes were the catch of the day for stylish landlubbers, from simple tees and tunics to sweaters and day dresses. Getting bored with denim cutoffs and army green? Striped short shorts with sailor style high-waisted, double-button fronts might be just the cure for your hot summer fashion daze. Can’t get away this summer on an exciting foreign trip? Don’t worry, head over to Intermix and pick up some ethnic jewelry: graphic African print covered bangles, a beaded collar necklace in desert shades or native wooden beaded stretch bracelets with feathers. Moga mixes horn and wood bangles to achieve an organic, neutral look. With temperatures rising to new heights New Yorkers are escaping to the nearby beaches but not before picking up some last minute seaside essentials: classic striped espadrilles by Madewell or a fun wedge sandal from Coach with whimsical details. Melissa’s striped plastic slide even sports and anchor motif. More anchors, life preservers and star fish are appliquéd on Braccialini’s nautical striped totes, and Jamin Puech’s straw shoulder bag with “Beach” spelled out in big plastic letters makes everyone smile. Jewelry picks up on sea life motifs with a fancy gold fish pendant from Bulgari or aquatic coloured crystal fish at Swarovski while Gas Bijoux adds shells and star fish to a delicate multiple chain bracelet.
