Menswear October 19

Colour & Trends, Footwear, Handbags

1.Menswear

One of the key trends this fall is menswear regardless whether it is in Paris, Milan, London or New York. Tailored jackets, blazers and pantsuits are ideal choices for the career customer everywhere. Traditional fabrics like tweeds and herringbones in neutral tones of grey and taupe are in the majority but then there are the occasional oversized lumberjack check and  colourful clan plaids. This fabric trend is not just for ready-wear but has crossed over into shoes and accessories as well. READ MORE +

Glam Slam October 18

Colour & Trends, Footwear

1.Glam Slam

Get noticed from the ground up! This season the favourite shoe-bootie or “shootie” reached new levels in the windows of the fashion capitals, not only in terms of heel height but materials also outdid previous seasons. There was multi-coloured striped satin at Guiseppe Zanotti and clusters of studs in gold or silver tones covered his bootie and sling backs. Crystal sparkle decorated pumps at Christian Louboutin and MiuMiu. Paillettes were another favourite all-over look, and placed patterns and designs upped the ante at Barbara Bui and at Christian Louboutin as well. Lace continued in many new versions. Glamorous feet are definitely making impact this season. READ MORE +

Fringe & Geometry October 11

Colour & Trends, Jewelry

1.Fringe

Two very different jewelry design concepts were happily combined into a new one: mixing the hard edges of geometric symbols, squares, circles, diamonds and dimensional pyramids with the softness of fluid chain. Two Paris resources with their own retail stores on the Left Bank, Babylone and Reminiscence, were the perfect example. The same ideas surfaced in Milan as well. Facets were a popular not only in bold stones but also as raised pyramid metal shapes. Chains could be bold but also industrial. Fluid ball bearing chains and panther links were other novel chain treatments, and linear earrings  looked best with delicate links in gold, silver or oxidized metal. READ MORE +

Touch Me, Feel Me October 10

Colour & Trends

1.FeelMe

The news for next fall at the recent textile fairs in Milan and Paris was all about texture and surface interest, from tactile tweeds, quilted fabrics, dimensional knits and various other methods of adding another layer of surface interest. Yet the discerning fashion shopper could spot all these trends already this current season at retail in New York, London, Paris or Milan. Metallic threads on a suede shift created an intricate geometric pattern at Ralph Lauren. Escada went into two directions, one with a shiny geometric tech pattern, the other looking hand-crafted with bulky threads re-embroidered on the bodice of a dress and the sleeves. Quilting and appliques were abundant. Tiers of organza and gunmetal silk are bound to be an important spring trend as well. And for the cold weather season there were plenty of curly lamb looks and a fresh looking puffy jacket at Emporio Armani. READ MORE +

Houndstooth & Glen Plaids October 7

Colour & Trends, Footwear, Handbags

1.GlenPlaids

The dapper look of traditional menswear patterns has taken women’s ready-to-wear fashions by storm this fall. Bold black and white houndstooth checks are being spotted on the young and fashionable this season, and the classic Glen plaid is a close runner up. Stores in Paris and Milan featured both patterns prominently in many merchandise classifications. Ferragamo and Yves Saint Laurent are the designers who endorsed this modern look of tradition and carried it over into their accessories as well. Shoemaker extraordinaire Christian Louboutin also liked the graphic houndstooth look, but he used a smaller scale in his flats and eponymous high heels. Keep a watch out for more classic patterns re-defined. READ MORE +
