We must admit, we are amazed that the world’s current love affair with snake has gone on for so long. But when designers keep turning out fabulous new shoes, bags and accessories, and now also ready-to-wear pieces, it’s hard to resist displaying our affection! In the natural tone versions, python-inspired prints serve as a neutral that is anything but basic—the soft white, gray, brown and black patterns are eye catching but not overpowering, and they go with just about anything. There is a great new batch of snake looks in the stores this month, from casual slip-on shoes for men and women to smokin’ high heels, as well as handbags small and large. Watch out also for snake detail on sunglasses! READ MORE +

Oxford Education March 30

Look out, ballerinas—there’s a new flat in town. Masculine lace-up oxfords have stepped out as the hot new alternative to the tried-and-true feminine slip-on for spring. These latest additions to the casual-dress hybrid repertoire play up the menswear trend more than ever, featuring toe caps and classic wingtip details. Some versions even go one step further with beefy extension soles. Not to mention that most of these masculine-inspired brogues are turning up in equally masculine-inspired neutrals, from crisp spectator white and black to vintagey tans, grays and browns. Whether clean and structured or soft and broken-in, the look is tailored, androgynous, and decidedly forward. READ MORE +

Summer Lace March 29

Footwear, Handbags, Jewelry

SummerLace 1

Looking for a spring fling that’s romantic, feminine and sexy all at the same time? Fling on some lace! It’s hardly new, but once again lace is stepping out of the boudoir for spring and summer fashion, and it’s hotter than ever. The key to updating frilly lace for a current look is by contrasting it with something tougher. Our fashionistas in NYC have been spotted anchoring their sheer, floaty, white lace dresses (a major spring must-have) with strong leather jackets and accessories in black and brown. Another fresh look is coloured lace. The new lace handbags and shoes are also anchored, either trimming or backing feminine lacey fabrics with leather, coarse wovens, and even clear plastic at Dolce & Gabbana. We’ve also spotted some lace jewelry with a tougher edge, like these tattoo-inspired crochet necklaces by Lorina. READ MORE +

Strike A Cord March 24

Colour & Trends, Jewelry

Cord 1

Not all jewelry need be of the bold statement variety. In fact, more casual and understated jewelry trends have been picking up steam for spring and summer. Leather and suede cords are a perfect example. Bracelets and necklaces are playing up raw ethnic looks with natural wood, hammered metals and turquoise, or dressing down  sweet and dainty charms. Leather-plus-chain braids have also made quite a splash at retail for a touch of artisan chic. And as cord jewelry is lightweight and extremely wallet friendly, it makes the ideal update to the layered wrist story—bracelets can be easily mixed-and-matched for a relaxed, personalized summer look. New In Fluo March 23

Colour & Trends, Footwear, Handbags, Jewelry

Fluo1

No season makes us want to hit the ‘refresh’ button on our wardrobes more than spring. This season, touches of fluo are providing just the right amount of bright punch to kick winter doldrums to the curb. Shocking neon accessories were spotted at retail in Paris this month, from shoes to bags to jewelry, and even in belts. Green, pink and yellow were the most popular colours, looking particularly new when paired with tan and other soft neutrals. Plastic materials were cheap and cheerful, even from high end accessory brands like Furla and Sequoia. Meanwhile matte finishes and fabrics offered a more sporty, high-tech look. And perhaps the freshest looks of all contrasted the neon colours with organic themes: branch coral shapes in multicolour neon plastic, or bright patent accented by natural woven rope. READ MORE +
