Back to the Pack August 31

Colour & Trends, Handbags

Backpacks1

The days are getting shorter and cooler, which means it’s back to hitting the books or spending longer hours confined to a cubicle – and you’re going to need some sort  of carry-all to help you transport papers, files, and other necessities during the daily grind. But just because what’s inside your bag is as boring as a Monday morning doesn’t mean the outside has to be. Backpack styles vary as widely as human personalities do. Structured leather packs or cross-body messenger-style bags say “urban warrior,” while sacks in cheerful plaids and colourful prints radiate a fun-loving attitude. Are you a nature lover? A backpack with plenty of functional straps and compartments shows how ready  you are for a weekend excursion into the wild. And if you want your backpack to look like actual wildlife, there are even fur-covered options out there. But, lest you think high fashion is the one area practical packs can’t cover, think again – plenty of famous brands produce ultra-luxe versions to appeal to those possessing champagne taste. Taking Flight August 30

Colour & Trends, Eyewear, Street Fashion

Want your wardrobe to take off full speed ahead? This fall’s crop of aviation- and moto-inspired jackets will make wearers look like they are about to ride the highway to the danger zone or if your heart belongs to the sky, look for a aviator shearling jacket accented with straps around the waist, collar, or cuffs. Those who crave the open road will love cropped jackets with plenty of zippers. But just because your outerwear says “tough chick” doesn’t mean you have to turn your back on your girly side⎯pair it with a feminine lace or knit dress. It’s the best of both worlds. And, no matter what, you’ll want to accent your look with a pair of aviator shades. You could go for the classic style, or try an a more contemporary model.  New versions of the aviator feature updates like thicker plastic frames, colour accents, and sporty, wrap-around styles. Welcome to the Jungle August 26

Colour & Trends, Footwear, Handbags

The cat’s out of the bag! It’s no secret, animal prints continue to trend for fall as they are roaring in every shop window. The popularity of animal prints simply never goes away. Why? Because they have the power to take an ensemble from milquetoast to daring. Leopard-print (faux) fur coats are a great way to go vintage (bonus points finding a jacket with cropped sleeves, a rounded collar, and a boxy fit). But if you are looking for something more modern, never fear⎯animal prints are even popping up on puffer coats. If you want your outfit to meow, rather than roar, animal print accessories are the way to go. Spots and stripes give an added shot of sex appeal to any pair of heels, but if stilettos aren’t your bag, they also give a funky edge to flat boots, skimmers, and athletic shoes. READ MORE +

Sweater Girls August 25

Accessories, Colour & Trends, Footwear, Gloves, Hats

SweaterGirls1

Whether we like it or not, cold weather is just around the corner, which means we need to trade in our rompers and gladiator sandals for something cozier. That’s right, it’s time to turn to knits. Need advice on what colour to choose? Look no further for inspiration than the cloudy winter sky. Gray is a perfect, chic neutral, whether it’s ombre, marled, or cable-knit. Another versatile knit option is the tunic-length sweater, which can be worn as a dress, or, when the snow really starts falling, layered over leggings or pants. And don’t forget knit accessories. Hats, scarves and gloves are staples, but keep an eye out for knit cuffs on boots and clogs. (over-the-knee socks, anyone?). READ MORE +
